“I’m excited to be playing these songs again and looking forward to sharing the moment with audiences in some beautiful old venues,” Finn said.
Originally released in 1983 (and recently reissued on coloured vinyl), Escapade’ was an immediate success, generating the hit singles ‘Fraction Too Much Friction,’ ‘Made My Day’ and ‘Staring At The Embers’ as well as fan favourites ‘In A Minor Key’ and ‘Through The Years.’
At the time, the album was an ambitious project, as it signaled Tim Finn breaking away from the hugely popular Split Enz, a band he co-founded in the early 1970’s. But Finn was to prove his critics wrong. ‘Escapade’ went on to become one of the biggest locally released albums of the early 80’s and took home the 1983 Countdown ‘Album of the Year’ Award, a significant pop-culture moment at the time.
Now in 2025, Tim Finn is returning to the stage for a genuine full-circle moment, shining the spotlight on the album that kick-started his stellar solo career. And as was the case with the original album recording, Finn has assembled an incredible live band to join him onstage.
Having wowed audiences in 2023 with the sold-out ‘Lives & Times of Tim Finn’ tour along with recent appearances at the Big Red Bash and Mundi Mundi Bash, Finn was keen to keep the momentum and energy going. And while the focus this time will be on ‘Escapade,’ Finn will also include songs penned from across his career and time in Split Enz and Crowded House.
This August experience the timeless songwriting of Tim Finn as he plays ‘Escapade’ and other classic songs from across his career for three exclusive shows only!
ABOUT TIM FINN:
Having established himself in the early 1970s as a founding member of Split Enz and later as a co-writer of Crowded House’s classic album Woodface (alongside brother Neil), Finn has penned and co-written some of the most treasured songs in contemporary music. The likes of ‘I See Red,” “Poor Boy,’ My Mistake,’ Dirty Creature’, ‘I Hope I Never’, ‘Six Months In A Leaky Boat’ and Weather With You immediately come to mind.
Finn’s successful solo career has delivered songs such as ‘Fraction Too Much Friction,’ ‘Made My Day’, ‘Persuasion’ and ‘Not Even Close’.
In recent years Finn has been developing new work for theatre. For the musical Ladies in Black, he received a Helpmann Award for Best New Australian Work. Finn also co-wrote and performed in the one-man show White Cloud, a poetic examination of his NZ family and pakeha identity. The Fiery Maze, a raw and provocative song cycle written with the late Australian poet Dorothy Porter, had its premiere at Malthouse Theatre in 2016, and was picked up for inclusion in the 2017 Sydney Festival.
More recently Finn developed Ihitai Avei’a – Star Navigator, an ambitious work commissioned by West Australian Opera and New Zealand Opera, which had seasons in Auckland and Wellington and was recorded by the Western Australian Symphony orchestra and broadcast on the ABC. His collaborative spirit ignited, in 2020/22 Finn worked with Roxy’s Music’s Phil Manzanera (who produced the Split Enz album Second Thoughts back in 1976), recording two albums Caught By The Heart and The Ghost of Santiago. He also worked with Split Enz bandmate Eddie Rayner on the acclaimed Forenzics LP, and Northern Irishman Andy White on their album Attitude.
In 2023, Tim Finn returned to the live stage with the sold-out ‘Lives & Times of Tim Finn tour along with recent headline performances at the Big Red Bash in Birdsville and Mundi Mundi Bash. This year Finn announced that he had signed a new, long-term global publishing deal with Kobalt Music.
